The Ivy Lee Method outlines a structured approach to productivity through the identification and prioritization of daily tasks. The method consists of six key steps:
- Identify the six most crucial tasks to accomplish the following day.
- Assign numerical values to each task to signify their order of importance.
- Begin the next day by focusing solely on the first task until it is either completed or sufficient progress has been made.
- Once the first task is addressed, move on to the subsequent tasks in the order established.
- Repeat this process daily to foster a consistent, productive habit.
This method is underpinned by two fundamental principles:
- Only one task should be tackled at a time.
- The most significant tasks should always be prioritized.
Additionally, tasks can be categorized into four distinct groups for better management:
- Urgent and important
- Not urgent but important
- Urgent but not important
- Not urgent and not important
